BAPTIST HEALTH Levy United Methodist Church WELLNESS CENTER
Levy United Methodist Church hosts one of the Community Based Wellness Centers of our local Baptist Health Medical Center. Our center is open each Monday from 9:00 am until 11:00 am, except for six weeks in July and August each year. Professional medical staff personnel join with volunteers from our church to help monitor the health needs of persons in our community. The services of the center are completely free to the public. Every Monday the basic checks are made (blood pressure, etc.). Each month different specialties are featured such as checks for glaucoma, blood sugar, hearing and cholesterol.
"Busy Bees" quilters
This group of ladies started meeting more than 60 years ago and was begun by a lady named Gertrude Lubker. They only quilt for the public (they do not piece quilts) and the proceeds go for special projects for the church. This amount averages $1200.00 to $1500.00 annually.
This 'fun' loving group of ladies meets every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. They always eat lunch and leave about 3:00 p.m.
Anyone interested in learning the art of quilting, or anyone who already knows how, is welcome. Just bring your needle and thimble and join us!
Care Bearers Mninstry
"Care Bearers" is a new ministry of caring for our limited activity people, in a systemic way, so that every one may be gathered in the name and presence of Jesus Christ. The goal of this ministry is to have every limited activity person be a part of a visit in the name of Jesus Christ at least once a month. We encourage those that give flowers, cards, tapes and prayer shawls to keep doing so. Part of this ministry will be to help acknowledge and coordinate those efforts. However, the main goal will be to have every limited activity person be a part of a regular visit in the name of Jesus Christ. If you wish to participate give us your name, address, phone, and email.
Mission Projects
Some of our mission projects are listed below:
One Great Hour of Sharing - An offering is taken to be used by United Methodist Committee on Relief. This is the first relief agency to be on the scene of disasters and this offering replenishes their supplies for the next emergency.
Festival of Sharing - This is an ingathering of health and school kits prepared for various disaster needs. We also have a blanket Sunday to provide blankets to be distributed world wide as needed. Sunday School Classes and other Groups in the church have ongoing outreach programs. Money was collected during Lent for Heifer Project International.
Our Friendship Ministry helps with prescribed medications, food and clothing when it is needed.
Food baskets are taken to needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas as well as food collected for the Amboy United Methodist Church food pantry regularly.
PIT Crew
Our growing Prayer Group is called the PIT Crew. [Prayer Intercessory Team.] The PIT Crew meets on Monday nights at 6:30 PM for about an hour. The team has a 9-1-1 prayer arraignment by which all of the group are notified immediately if special prayers are needed. They are one of the Covenant Prayer Groups affiliated with Upper Room Ministries. Great stories of answered prayers are shared and God is praised for His actions. The PIT Crew also has a weekly "prayer blanket" from requests from the Chaplain at Arkansas Children's hospital. Anyone interested in learning to pray more effectively is welcome.
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
The Prayer Shawl Ministry at Levy United Methodist Church is one of many ways we tend to the varied needs of our congregation and community. Our shawls are begun, worked and finished with prayer. Each shawl brings to the recipient the warmth, love and concern that, through prayer, have been absorbed into every stitch. Both women and men knit or crochet the shawls at home or at a monthly gathering at church. Prayer shawls are made to give to people who hurt - those who are grieving, lonely, homebound or in physical need - within our church and beyond. Anyone may give a prayer shawl. Just call the church office (501-834-9492) to request a shawl or to learn more about joining this worthy project. After learning how a prayer shawl had impacted the lives of many people in other churches we began this outreach ministry. You can become part of this ministry by making shawls, or by requesting a shawl for a friend or loved one who is in need. For more information, contact Veta Smith 501-758-0550 (E-Mail: veta@aristotle.net) .

Levy UMC Share Group Ministry:
If you are interested in becoming closer to Christ, and growing in Christ through His Word, both in a relaxed and loving atmosphere, a Share Group may be for you. If you do not attend a Sunday School class or are unable to attend services each Sunday, this is a wonderful opportunity to meet with others who are growing in their faith journey. Groups meet each week for approximately 2 hours. Single, married, young, "mature", the age range is a perfect blend as we all share our experiences and stories of our faith journeys. Praises and prayer concerns are lifted up and it's wonderful to see how God's Word applies to each of our lives. You wilI leave each week with a greater sense of faith, spirit and hope, knowing that God is at work in all that you do.
