2004 Confirmation Class

By Deidre Burress, Leader

Club 6 held their Confirmation Service on Sunday, May 23. Class members are Natalie Mosley-Hoskyn, Taylor Smith, Ashley Swasta, Tyler Wilson and Autumn Schweiger. Class members were greeted prior to the service by some very special ladies, their secret pals. Throughout the past six months, the secret pals provided treats, gifts, cards and prayers for her particular child. A few minutes before the morning service, Joanie Bush, Debbe Triplett, Joyce Lewis, Dawn Andrews and Nicole Cessna joined the class in the sanctuary and revealed their identity. None of the youth guessed the identity of his or her secret pal and all were excited about meeting the women face to face.

At the beginning of the confirmation class, each child was asked to select a Bible verse that held special meaning to him or her. Their parents were also asked to write a letter to their son or daughter describing the best qualities their child has, concerns and questions their child has and other special feelings for their son or daughter. As the Bible verse and letter were read, each youth walked down the aisle to be greeted by his or her secret pal. Mrs. Dorothy Akins presented each student with a crystal heart as a reminder of this special day. The class members presented their secret pals with a small bouquet of roses when they met at the altar.

After the class had been presented to the congregation, Brother David asked the parents and other family members to join the group at the altar. The youth then received the vows of confirmation. Ashley Swasta was joyfully baptized into the church during the service.

Club 6 members along with the leader, Deidre Burress, wish to thank everyone at Levy who made the class a success. The wonderful women who were secret pals, the men the youth chose as their secret pals, the teachers, the supporters, the mentors, the ones who helped in our room and with our projects - all played a very important role in our class and more importantly, everyone made an important impact on the members of Club 6.

Later that evening, a reception was held honoring the members of Club 6. Mrs. Ellie Martin presented each class member with a very special pin and card and shared with the class how she knew their prayers had worked for her. Ryan McAllister presented each class member with a special treat. Veta Smith gave each youth a card with a valuable surprise tucked inside. Amy, Jack and Rodney Haygood gave each youth a gift certificate for delicious treat. Nicole Cessna gave each one a special gift as well. Richard Wilson warmly welcomed the new group to join YCIC and encouraged them to continue in their faith journey. He shared with the group a scrapbook of his days in the Amboy Youth Group from twenty years earlier.

On behalf of the members of Club 6, I am deeply grateful and so appreciative of all the support, love, prayers, teachers, project helpers, banner makers, newspaper editors, and others who have helped our class become a success. Thank you to Levy UMC for all that you have done to make our class a wonderful, learning experience for everyone.

Editors note: Each student was also presented a scrapbook of special memories of the Club 6 experience, made by the leader, Deidre Burress.
